Common Knowledge, Coherent Uncertainties and Consensus

چکیده
In this paper we study info-gap analogs of the classical game-theoretic concepts of informationand knowledge-functions, common knowledge and consensus. Our main results are that knowledge is constricted as info-gap-uncertainty grows (theorem 1), common knowledge is limited by the presence of info-gap uncertainty (theorem 2), and that common knowledge is related to consensus via the infogap coherence functions (theorem 3). We discuss several examples, including the prisoners’ dilemma, principal-agent contract negotiations, search and evasion strategies, and teamwork and the need for costly transfer of information.

Consensus By Identifying Extremists
Given a finite state space and common priors, common knowledge of the identity of an agent with the minimal (or maximal) expectation of a random variable implies “consensus”, i.e., common knowledge of common expectations. This “extremist” statistic induces consensus when repeatedly announced, and yet, with n agents, requires at most log2 n bits to broadcast.
متن کاملWhen is consensus knowledge based? Distinguishing shared knowledge from mere agreement
Scientific consensus is widely deferred to in public debates as a social indicator of the existence of knowledge. However, it is far from clear that such deference to consensus is always justified. The existence of agreement in a community of researchers is a contingent fact, and researchers may reach a consensus for all kinds of reasons, such as fighting a common foe or sharing a common bias. ...
متن کاملRobust Consensus Analysis and Design under Relative State Constraints or Uncertainties
This paper proposes a new approach to analyze and design distributed robust consensus control protocols for general linear leaderless multi-agent systems (MASs) in presence of relative-state constraints or uncertainties. First, we show that the MAS robust consensus under relative-state constraints or uncertainties is equivalent to the robust stability under state constraints or uncertainties of...
متن کاملBayesian decision support for complex systems with many distributed experts
Complex decision support systems often consist of component modules which, encoding the judgements of panels of domain experts, describe a particular sub-domain of the overall system. Ideally these modules need to be pasted together to provide a comprehensive picture of the whole process. The challenge of building such an integrated system is that, whilst the overall qualitative features are co...
